About

My name is Matan and I’m a software developer in Montréal. I admire – love — programming and life in Montréal.

Allow me to introduce: ME!
Allow me to introduce: ME!

I adore the winter of Québec, but there’s nothing like the occasional refreshing Montréal summer. I spend many a chill afternoon in Montréal’s cafés. I read a lot, mostly online but occasionally also a good science or science-fiction book. I spend my commutes to school and work listening to a StackOverflow podcast or watching a TEDTalk video.

I love 20 Thousand Leagues under the Sea by Jules Verne, The Big Bang by Simon Singh and other books.  Some of my Google Reader feeds are Joel on Software, Futility Closet and xkcd. You could say I’m suffering from information overload.

I love C++ and I love Ruby, although lately I’ve been hacking on Python more than Ruby. I play with these darlings only in the realm of Vim. Of all programming languages I tried I think C++ and the STL had the most impact on me. Rapid development with 4th generation programming languages also thoroughly changed my view on programming and software development.

I love the first season of The Storyteller, all nine seasons of the X-Files and the mere two seasons of Fawlty Towers. My affinity or correlation to TV however ends not so far off from that.

I am quite active on GitHub, where I mirror some of my personal hacks and projects. I am very socially active on StackOverflow, where I ask, answer and discuss questions about anything programming. I am also very active on Twitter, where I talk a lot about programming and generally socialize with like-minded people. I also have a Google Profiles page: it’s rather static, but there.

I don’t publish new blog posts very often, but when I do I tend to return to my posts and update them every now and then, as if in a wiki. I hope you’ll forgive my inconstant behaviour. Finally, I encourage you to contact me. Email me at matan dot nassau at gmail dot com, I’ll be happy to hear from you!

Oh, and believe it or not, I even have my résumé online, in PDF format.
